Meet Sam, The Green Yogi’s Yogi of the Month. She is bubbly, engaging, committed to her practice, and a Cornell alum, Go Big Red. Don’t you wish your 5th grade teacher was this much fun?
Profession: 5th grade teacher, Chadwick School
Fun Fact: After extensive discussion it has been determined that if I were a character on Friends I’d be Monica.
Who is your favorite teacher and why? This is a very hard question for me because I have several favorite Green Yogi instructors for many different reasons. If I’m forced to chose I’d have to say Amy Beausang because of her special blend of spirituality and the physical intensity of her flows. Amy is one of those people in my life with which I had an immediate connection. I always leave her classes feeling rejuvenated in both body and mind.
What are your intentions for your yoga practice? My intention for almost every yoga practice is Gratitude. I’m so thankful for the many blessings in my life, and I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to be present to my intention for an hour and 15 minutes every time I step onto my yoga mat.
What inspires you? My fifth grade students. Their love of life, inquisitiveness, and loyalty are an inspiration to me everyday.
How long have you practiced yoga and how has it improved your life? I’ve been practicing yoga consistently for the past five years. Not only has it improved my muscle tone in my entire body, it has been the best workout for my mind and spirit. Yoga has brought spirituality into my life that I didn’t even know was missing. After a particularly stressful day at work I look forward to getting on my mat and releasing and letting go. It always does the trick! I’ve been practicing at The Green Yogi since it opened 3 years ago, and I have met such amazing people and made so many great friends. The Green Yogi is such a special community in itself and we’re so lucky to have such a special studio in North Manhattan Beach.
