Yogi Of The Month: Marie Olivas

Meet mother of five, wife, and yogi Marie Olivas.  She is the matriarch of her family and an inspiration to all of us here at The Green Yogi.  Read on to see why!

Be Inspired,

Joseph (11), Gabrielle (9)

Who is your favorite instructor?

I fully embrace the idea that yoga is MY personal practice.  All of the yogis at The Green Yogi provide an exceptional opportunity for me to grow on my mat.  Amy knows me the best and she speaks to my spirit.

When you aren’t on the mat, where can we find you?

I enjoy drumming on my djembe, sewing, and reading, but realistically you are more likely to find me offering free taxi services to my five young children.

What song would you like to hear on every yoga play list?

Wendy plays the theme song to “Gladiator” – It reminds me that I am powerful and courageous.

How does yoga help you as a mother?

My life purpose is to find the balance between honoring my own life at the same time as managing and nurturing the lives of my large family. It is always a challenge as a mother to put your own needs ahead of your children. Yoga is helping me teach myself, and my children, that I am an individual and a mother.

What inspires you?

My husband – my partner of 25 years inspires me each and every day.

How do you inspire your family members to try yoga?

Our family has learned to respect each of our individual passions. It’s natural for each of us to become involved to show respect and admiration for one another.
